Varastokeräkaalin tuotannon kannattavuus

Abstract

Tutkija Katri Komin tutkimuksen mukaan varastokeräkaalin sadonkorjuuajankohtana on hyvä säilyttää lokakuun alkupuolisko, kuten nykyään menetellään. Kaalin sato kasvaa ajan funktiona, mutta samalla kasvaa myös hävikki. Mallilaskelmien perusteella nykyisillä varastokeräkaalin hinnoilla varastokeräkaalin viljely ei ole kannattavaa. Viljelijät varastoivat keräkaalia ensisijaisesti ostajien tarpeesta lähtien, eivätkä niinkään varastoinnin kannattavuuden vuoksi. Saadakseen tuotteensa markkinoille ostajat edellyttävät tasaista toimitusvarmuutta koko varastokaudelle.

The objective of this study was to take a closer look at growing the stored cabbage in small and in large farms and to find out the effect of various harvest times to the profitability of stored cabbage. The empirical analysis was made by the data covering storing years 1994/1995 and 1995/1996. The data consisted of information on yields and losses in storing regarding to various harvest times. The growers of stored cabbage were sent an inquiery to refine the stored cabbage model made in 1994 and updated in 1995. According to the results, there is no need to change the so-called normal harvest time of stored cabbage in Finland (beginning of October). With current prices and support levels, the growing of stored cabbage is not profitable in the farm models used in this study. In order to gain reasonable compensation for own labour and own capital, the price of stored cabbage should rise about 70 % in the small farm model and about 30 % in the big farm model. There was a 22 % difference in the yields of stored cabbage in the small and large farms in favour of small farms.
