Luonnosta teolliseen tuotantoon : Kuvaus luonnontuotealan kehittämishankkeesta Lapissa 2000 - 2006

Abstract

Luonnosta teolliseen tuotantoon -hankkeessa on käyty systemaattisesti läpi joukko pohjoisen luonnon erikoiskasveja ja niiden laajamittaisen hyödyntämisen mahdollisuuksia elintarvike- kosmetiikka- ja lääketeollisuuden raakaaineina. Hanke on jatkoa Lapissa 1990-luvulla käynnistetylle luonnontuotealan hanketoiminnalle. Merkittävää sen toteutumiselle oli laaja asiantuntijatahojen verkosto ja tiivis vuorovaikutus alan yrityskentän kanssa. Hankkeessa oli mukana laaja ja kattava edustus yritysosapuolia, niiden joukossa myös juomateollisuuden ja kosmetiikka-alan suuryrityksiä. Verkostoitu kehittämistyön malli pystyi vastaamaan monipuolisesti viljely- ja keruuverkoston sekä alan yritysten esittämiin kehittämistehtäviin. Hankkeella pyrittiin jakamaan kentälle tietoa mukana olevien yritysten tuotekehityksestä ja vaatimuksista, joita tuotekehitys asettaa uusille materiaaleille ja käyttömuodoille. Lisäksi tiedotettiin yrityksille Lapin luonnontuotealan tarjoamista potentiaalisista mahdollisuuksista tuottamalla eri kasveista täsmäprojekteja , joiden toivottiin antavan taustatietoa yritysten omia tuotekehityshankkeita varten ja lisäävän yritysten kiinnostusta Lapin erikoiskasvituotantoon. Hankkeen aikana syntyi runsaasti uusia toimijaverkostoja ja hankeyhteistyötä. Myös uusia laitekehitykseen ja keruuverkostoihin liittyviä hankkeita on käynnistetty. Lapin erikoiskasvien tuotanto on noussut jo kymmeniin tuhansiin kiloihin vuodessa ja alueen luonnontuoteala päässyt lupaavaan alkuun. Teollisuusmittainen raaka-aineiden talteenottoketju edistää lisäksi aina myös paikallisten pienyritysten raaka-ainehankintaa. Toiminnan jatkuvuus edellyttää kuitenkin edelleen toimia laadun, keruuverkoston ja laitekehityksen parantamiseksi. Lisäksi tarvitaan ennakkoluulotonta uusien mahdollisuuksien tunnistamista ja eri toimialojen välisen yhteistyön kehittämistä.

Several special plants of the arctic nature have been studied in the LTTproject, to evaluate the possible industrial scale utilisation of them as raw materials for food- cosmetic or pharmaceutical industry. The project was continuum to the nature based projects of 1990Žs. The remarkable innovation of the project was the use of multidimensional professional and academic experts, and the close co-operation with the field of industry. There was large group of industry memers in the projects, including the biggest brewery and cosmetic company of Finland. The network of professional experts was observed to work well finding solutions multidimensionally to the challenges given by cultivation, harvest, and industry. The aim of the project was to gather information of the needs of industrial research and development processes to the harvest and pre-processing level, and also give information to industry partners about the possibilities of natural products of Lapland. This was achieved by producing separated target projects of various plants. This would give sufficient background information to companies to start up their own R&D-projects, and also increase the interests towards Lapland speciality plant production. There was many new networks initialised during the course of the project among the project members and local people. New projects to develop harvest equipment, and activate local people was also started. The production of speciality plants in Lapland has already rised to tens of thousands of kilos annually, and there is now promising start created for industry co-operation. The industry scale harvest also produces better raw material fodr the local micro scale companies. In the future there is, however, continuous need to develope the quality control, harvest network, and new harvest equipment. There is also need to create innovative new applications, adn to create more co-operation between different business areas (eg. travel industry).
