Geenitekniikan omaksumisen taloudelliset vaikutukset Suomen elintarvikeketjussa : Case-tutkimukset rypsistä ja perunasta

Abstract

This report analyses the possible adoption and commercial introduction of genetically modified (GM) crops within selected agri-food chains in Finland. The report is divided into two main parts. First, based on the available literature, the economic and policy factors that influence the rate of adoption and diffusion of GM technology in agriculture are examined. Second, two selected crops (turnip rape and potato) are used as case studies to provide further insights into the economic issues and the implications of adopting GM technology in the Finnish agri-food chain. The case studies are based on interviews with key players involved in farming, processing, trade, and administration of the production of turnip rape and potato. Farmers' perspectives in regard to the adoption of GM technology are especially emphasised.
