Luonnonmukaisesti tuotetun kuitu- ja öljypellavan viljelytekniikan kehittäminen

Abstract

Luonnonmukainen kuitu- ja öljypellavan tuotanto edellyttää rikkakasvien, tautien ja tuholaisten hallintaa. Tässä projektissa (1998 2000) kehitettävät menetelmät perustuvat rikkakasvien ennakkotorjuntaan optimaalisen viljelykierron avulla ja mekaaniseen torjuntaan, sekä tautien ja tuholaisten tunnistamiseen ja sallitun torjunnan oikea-aikaisuuteen. Pellavalla esiintyy Suomessa toistaiseksi vähän tauteja ja tuholaisia, mutta ne tulevat todennäköisesti yleistymään viljelyalojen kasvaessa. Markkinoilla on jo luonnonmukaisesti tuotetusta pellavakuidusta sekä -öljystä ja -rouheesta valmistettuja tekstiilejä ja elintarvikkeita. Kasvava kysyntä luo mahdollisuuksia myös uusille tuotannonaloille ja edellyttää toisaalta koko tuotantoketjun, myös viljelyn, laadun hallintaa.

The organic production of flax and linseed requires the risks for weeds, diseases and insect pests to be kept under control. The project (1998 2000) developed control methods based on the prevention of weeds with optimal crop rotation and mechanical control, the identification of diseases and insect pests, and improvements to the timing of prevention. In Finland, the diseases and insect pests affecting flax and linseed have not been a great problem yet, but they are likely to become more so when the growing area of flax and linseed increases. The textile and food industries have developed new products from organically produced flax fibre, linseed oil and linseed meal. The increasing demand for flax and linseed creates opportunities for new products but calls for quality management of the whole production chain as well.
